If I had a dollar for every person who’s told me that they hate English but love science? I’d be able to buy a new mattress.
Little do these people realize that they’re using classic English skills in science all.of.the.time. By people, I generally mean teenagers.
In this video, I wanted to walk you through ways to think about legitimizing and incorporating English skills into science lessons. You’re probably already doing it! Adding a few tweaks like discussing whether to use microscope or microscopic in a sentence can round out what you’re already doing.
It cannot be overstated—though I’ll do a good job of getting really close to it—how critical cross-curricular lessons are to the development of stronger writers and readers.
